The specific problems people actually hit, and what to do about each.

The browser never asked for permission

Browsers wait for a real interaction, so the prompt appears when you press Record, not when the page loads. If pressing Record does nothing, the site is probably already blocked: open the padlock in the address bar, allow the microphone, then reload.

Permission is granted but the recording comes back silent

This is the confusing one: the browser was allowed in, the recording was made, and there is no voice in it. Almost always the microphone is muted or turned down somewhere outside the browser, where no website can see it. Work through it in this order.

1. Check whether anything can record. Open your operating system's own recorder — Voice Recorder on Windows, QuickTime Player on macOS — and record a few seconds. If that comes back silent too, the problem is the system, not this site, and the steps below are where it is.

2. Check the hardware mute. Many keyboards and most headsets have their own microphone mute key or inline switch, and it stays muted across reboots. Look for a lit indicator on the key or the cable.

3. Windows. Open Settings → System → Sound and confirm the right input device is selected and its volume is not at zero. Then open More sound settings → the Recording tab → your microphone → Properties → Levels. A crossed-out speaker icon there is a mute that the Sound page does not show, and it is the single most common cause of a silent recording with permission granted.

4. macOS. Open System Settings → Sound → Input, confirm the device you are actually speaking into is the selected one, and check that the input volume slider is not at the far left.

5. Once the system records. Come back, press Choose microphone on the stage, and pick that same working device. The choice applies from your next take.

Another app is using the microphone

Meeting apps and streaming software can hold the device exclusively. Close them and press Record again. You do not need to reload.

The score says it did not hear you

That message appears when the recording contains no detectable speech at all, rather than a quiet or imperfect one — a quiet take still scores. The attempt is not saved and does not count as a recorded line, so nothing you had already recorded is lost. Work through the silent-recording steps above, then try again a little closer to the microphone.

Export failed

Your recordings are safe. Export never touches them. Try again, and if it keeps failing the site falls back to exporting audio only, which works in browsers where video encoding does not.
