About this scene

The most quoted forty seconds in the series, and it ends on a snack. Thirteen of the fifteen lines are Light talking himself through his own plan — two of them run past six seconds with nowhere to breathe — while Ryuk gets a laugh and one interruption, “Ohhhh the symptoms are starting!”. Three consecutive laughing lines open the pack before anyone says a word, so you are committed to the bit before the monologue even begins. All of it exists to set up line fifteen: “I'll take a POTATO CHIP and EAT IT!”.
