The English gag dub of Ghost Stories is famous for ignoring the script it was handed, and this is the scene people mean. Mio spends eleven of the thirteen lines eulogising a pet rabbit she brought back from the dead, building a genuinely tender farewell out of his laugh and his “funny little requests” — while the rabbit itself, three lines in total, keeps answering her in a register the eulogy is very much not in. Ten of the twelve handoffs overlap at thirty-two seconds, the tightest in this batch, so the two voices are almost never apart and the joke only lands if the mourning half stays completely sincere. It ends on a two-line punchline that has been quoted for twenty years and is exactly as crass as its reputation.
