    About this scene

    A wall goes up through the middle of the swamp and the friendship goes with it. Thirty lines in sixty-nine seconds makes this the densest pack in the library at twenty-six a minute, and Donkey carries seventeen of them — including the run from “You are mean to me” to “Because that's what friends do! They forgive each other!” that the scene actually exists for. It opens as a shoving match (“Back off!” “No, you back off!” “Stubborn jackass!” “Smelly ogre!”) where ten of the handoffs overlap, then thins out almost completely for the apology, so the two halves need two different energies. Shrek's last line takes the apology back.
